The bottles had a preloaded credit that allowed users to pay for one journey on the London Underground. It also won Sustainable Brand Index Award 2020 and Purposeful Brands Digital 2019. Swish won the award “Mobile Payment of the Year” at the gala for mobiles, ‘Guldmobilen’ 2013. The organization gathers around users of Bancontact Payconiq Company (Belgium), Bluecode (Germany and Austria), MobilePay (Denmark and Finland), Sibs/MB Way (Portugal), Swish (Sweden), Twint (Switzerland), and Vipps (Norway). In September 2019, the brand announced teaming up with six other mobile payment providers in Europe to form the group European Mobile Payment Systems Association (Empsa), which will make it possible for Swedish residents to use Swish in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland, and Norway. The coordination with other banks and the timing of having a cross-border solution that would need to operate between banks is very challenging, so seeing Swish expand to other territories like the UK or Germany is thought to be unlikely in the near future. Swish was built within a single country with a unified and trusted payment infrastructure (BankID) and a single currency (Swedish krona). Swish’s internationalization is very complicated for a few reasons. You can only have one if you are a native Swede or you have convinced the Swedish Tax Agency that you will stay in the country for a period longer than a year. The Swish application is dependent on the BankID application which in turn requires you to have a personal identity number. Swish was created for the needs of a single market – the Swedish market. To be able to use Swish for casino transactions, you must download the app of the service, as well as the Mobile BankID app. Swish has countless partners in the fields of online and in-store payments and cooperates with technical suppliers, e-commerce platforms, payment service providers, checkout systems, CRM, ERP and electronic cash register systems. The app connects the user’s phone number to their bank account and makes it possible to transfer money in real-time. The service works through a smartphone application. What was initially intended to be an app that would conduct private transactions between individuals has evolved into a system that caters to businesses and e-commerce platforms. Other institutions have also joined the network, namely Skandia, Sparbanken Syd and ICA Banken. The payments can be carried out 24/7 thanks to a settlement platform (Betalningar i realtid, BiR) that is jointly owned by banks. The app was released in 2012, enabled to conduct instant, real-time payments between user payment accounts. The concept was supported by the Bankgirot and the Central Bank of Sweden, as well as the Swedish savings bank which launched Getswish AB, the company that runs Swish and is headquartered in Stockholm. Swish is a product of cooperation of six large Swedish banks – Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, Länsförsäkringar, Nordea, SEB and Swedbank.
